In the past few years, Champ d’Action has forged a number of particularly adventurous improvization projects. To give a few examples, the ensemble has worked hand in hand with composer Richard Barrett, the free jazz collective reFLEXible and has performed Cornelius Cardew’s grafical score ‘Treatise’.
At the 2010 Klarafestival, Champ d’Action’s musicians will unleash their creativity on Gustav Mahler’s famous orchestra songs: the ‘Kindertotenlieder’. Mahler’s music and Friedrich Rückert’s poems function as a base for a new cycle. With live electronics, electric guitars cello and counter bass, Champ d’Action seeks a contemporary answer to ‘Kindertotenlieder’, a good hundred years after its première.
